Friday Refresh - Three Lessons from My Mom
Hey there!
With Mother’s Day on Sunday, I’ve been thinking a lot about my mom, whom I lost nearly two years ago. She was a one-of-a-kind Bavarian woman whose wisdom still guides me every day (and yes, sometimes through tears—I miss her like crazy). Here are three beautiful lessons my German mama taught me that continue to shape who I am (and our little business, too!).
🦁 Be Fearless
At just 17 and speaking only German, my mother boarded a flight with $20 in her pocket and a phone number for an aunt in New York City. Despite growing up in post-WWII hardship, she became a fashion model and flight attendant, traveling the world with Lufthansa.
Her courage reminds me that nothing truly worth doing comes without risk. What leap of faith have you been putting off? Sometimes the scariest decisions lead to our greatest adventures and triumphs.
💎 Elegance Is a Trait
The comment I hear most about my mother was how elegant she was. Hair, nails, jewelry—meticulously planned for every occasion. She wasn’t just “dressed up”; she carried herself with a natural grace that commanded respect.
Elegance isn’t about expense or trends—it’s about intention and self-respect. Show up as your best self, even on ordinary days.
🛁 Always Make Time for a Bath
Baths were sacred to my mom; when house-hunting, a proper bathtub was her non-negotiable! She never felt guilty about a small pleasure that brought her peace.
Though she never saw my acquisition of Formulary 55, she would’ve been our biggest supporter (and customer!). Her example of prioritizing little moments of joy is something we pour into our products every day.
This Weekend’s Reflection
Honor the wisdom of your mom—or any important woman in your life—whether she’s still with us (call her, or give her a big hug) or lives on in your heart. What lessons have they taught you that you’re passing on?
Wishing all the moms the happiest of Mother’s Days and a weekend filled with beautiful memories! 💐
