Friday Refresh: fill your cup first this weekend

7 may 2026by Kecia Hielscher

Hey There,

I came across a clip from a Mel Robbins podcast recently, and it stopped me cold.

Jay Shetty said:
“No one will ever love you exactly how you want.”

Mel paused him right there—and honestly, I did too.

Because what he meant is this: we all carry around a quiet script for how love should look. And when someone shows up differently—making coffee, handling the errand, folding the laundry—we miss it.

It didn’t match the scene in our head.

Mel’s reframe stuck with me:
What if the question isn’t “why aren’t they loving me the right way?” but “how am I missing the ways they already are?”

And then, a second thought followed right behind it:

Where am I missing the ways I’m not loving myself?

Because if we’re honest… the people who give the most are often the ones who give to themselves the least.

Especially moms.

They remember everything, hold everything, fix everything—usually before they’ve had a hot cup of coffee or five uninterrupted minutes alone. They pour endlessly, and the world just keeps holding out the cup.

So with Mother’s Day this Sunday, it feels like the right moment to ask:

When’s the last time you filled your own cup first?

Not after everything else is done.
Not once you’ve “earned it.”
Just… first.

Because the truth is, no one is coming to hand you permission to take care of yourself.

You have to give it to yourself.

For me, that looks like simple things:
Daily walks with my dogs.
A long, unhurried bath (yes, with our Formulary 55 bath soaks, which I pair with our body oil - Pure skin softness bliss!).
Ending the day with Bridgerton or whatever romcom Netflix is pushing that moment.

Not indulgences. Just maintenance.
It’s how I stay me.

💛 This weekend, try this:

Pick one thing that makes you feel genuinely good—rested, restored, cared for—and do it for yourself.

Not as a reward.
Not after you’ve checked every box.
Just because you’re worth it on an ordinary day.

Maybe it’s a bath. A walk. A show with zero guilt and maximum snacks.

Do it like you deserve it. Because you do.

Happy Friday, friend 🌿

P.S. To every mom reading this—you are so loved, even when it doesn’t show up the way you imagined. This weekend, let someone love you in their way… and don’t forget to love yourself in yours. 💐
